Smt. Y.K Sandhya Sharma is a well-known litterateur, writer, columnist, novelist, dance and drama critic, and playwright. She is a Kannada Master of Arts (MA Distinction) graduate, and has worked as an assistant editor in Prajamata, Prajaprabhutva and Inchara magazines. She has served as a senior officer in the Karnataka Information and Public Relations Department.
Sandhya started her journey into the literary world during her high school years. She has been active in the field for over fifty years and has been highly respected by peers, readers and admirers.
She has written about 250 short stories, 35 novels, 5 short story collections and more than 200 poems, skits, humorous articles, plays and biographies. She has critiqued more than 800 drama and dance performances which are published in esteemed newspapers and magazines.Sandhya is an auditioned artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, where she has presented more than 200 programs. She established an amateur drama company called ‘Sandhya Kalavidaru’ which has conceived and presented a number of experiments. She has acted in several kannada dramas. Her love for the theatre and art started in her childhood and has since been an integral part of it.
She is honored with several awards and titles for her literary achievements, a few significant among them are:- Kempegowda Award from Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, Aryabhata International award, Attimabbe award, Gorooru Award, Karnataka Dasara Award, Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha Award, Panje Mangesharaya Award, Sri Sir.M. Vishweshvaraya award, Canara Bank`s “Women Achiever” Award & Abdul Kalam Award, Kannada Seva Ratna Award from Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Bangalore, “ Sadhana” award from Mangalore ‘Sadhana Saamskritika Foundation’ and recently got prestigious award and honoured as “Lipi Pragne” title by Chandrakala Swara-lipi Foundation of Bangalore Gayana Samaja Globally recognised organisation.
Recently she is awarded ”Pankajashri” Prashasthi from Kendra Kannada Sahitya parishath and ” Naari shakthi” Award and has been accorded with “Sahitya Bharati” title from Shivapriya International Dance Academy, Recently she was awarded ” Gaargi” prashasthi and ” Kalaabhisaarike” Awards. In the year 1917 she presided the ‘First Mahila Sahitya Sammelan’ Bangalore Rural. Currently she is the chief editor of online ‘Sandhya Patrike” a cultural magazine.
